Keith Ellison


Keith Ellison is the first Muslim elected to the US Congress.  He represents US congressional 5th district. He was born in Detroit in a Roman Catholic family. He converted to Islam at the age of 19 when he was studying at Wayne State University in Detroit. Ellison has four children.



Keith decided to take oath as a Congressman on the Quran. This was turned into a controversy by some. He decided to take oath on the Quran owned by Thomas Jefferson to point the importance of the Book with the Founding Fathers.

He serves in the House Committee on Financial Services.
